CIA II for II Years

PTA Meeting

Parents-Teachers meeting was held on 17th March 2018. The purpose of the meeting was deliberated by the principal. She had an interactive session with the parents. Parents met the respective pedagogy staff of their wards to know their progress in academics and co-curricular activities.

Annual Health Check-up

The Apollo Shine Foundation organised a one-day health check-up for all the staff and students on 15.03.2018 with the help of the doctors and nurses of Apollo Hospital, Chennai.

Awareness Generation Meeting on Communicable Diseases

An Awareness Generation Meeting on Communicable Diseases was conducted by the Director, Dept. of Public Health and Preventive Medicine on 09.03.2018. Awareness about various communicable diseases and various measures to be taken care of for the diseases was created among the students.

International Women’s Day Celebration

Women’s day was celebrated in Loyola College of Education campus on March 8th 2018. Mrs.AdhilakshmiLogamurthy, an Advocate on the rolls of Bar Council of Tamilnadu was the Chief guest. She addressed the Students on the need of Women Empowerment and the Laws which can enhance to empower women in ever changing world.

Workshop on Power Point Skills for I Years – Mr. Udayakumar, Faculty , SRM University

A one day workshop on Power point skills was conducted by Mr. Udhaya Kumar from SRM University who had an in-depth knowledge on using the various skills of PowerPoint 2010. As future teachers and based on the present expectations by the national curriculum framework (NCF) the imbuement of the knowledge on ICT power point was a big eye opener and a good experience for the student-teachers. Mr. Udhaya Kumar explained the concepts and clarified the doubts of students clearly.

National Seminar on Vision 2030: Strategies to Attain Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) for Seamless Transformation

A two day National Seminar on “Vision 2030: Strategies to Attain Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) for Seamless Transformation” was organized by IQAC. Dr. S. Venkataraman, Senior Consultant, Education, UNESCO (Paris, Bangkok and Beirut) inaugurated the Seminar and gave the keynote address. The seminar focused on the following Subthemes: Sustainable Eco literacy, Refining Teacher's Professional Etiquette, Value Resilience through Proactive Teaching, Innovative Teaching - Learning Techniques, Inclusive Education for Social Justice and Gender Equality in Education. The Resource Persons were Dr. T.M.N.Deepak, Faculty, Loyola College, Chennai; Rev. Fr. Joe Andrew, SDB, Communication Specialist; Prof.G.M.James, HR Consultant and Mrs. A.Amudha, Co-ordinator. The Chair persons of the parallel sessions were Dr. Gabriel, Scientist, ERI; Dr. Aishwarya, Faculty, LIBA; Rev. Dr. Vincent Sekar, SJ, Executive Director, IDCR; Rev. Dr. Ignanci, SJ, Faculty, Dept. of VISCOM and Prof. Edward Sudakar, Dean of Arts. Dr. Bernard D’ Sami, Co-ordinator, LISSTAR, Loyola College, Chennai gave the Valedictory address.

Pongal Holidays

FIESTA 2018 – Annual Cultural Festival

FIESTA – an annual cultural extravaganza was celebrated on 11th and 17th January. Thiru.Gnanakaravel, Tamil Film Lyricist inaugurated the cultural festival and encouraged the students to make use the opportunities to bring out their innate talents. The student-teachers participated with full involvement and enthusiam and in various cultural events organized by the staff coordinators and the management. It was a learning experience for the students. Dr. J. Amirtha Lenin, Professor, Dept. of Tamil, Loyola College of Arts and Science, presided over the valedictory function and gave the valedictory address. He distributed the prizes to the winners.

Pongal Celebration

Pongal is the major festival celebrated in Tamilnadu. The staff and the students of each pedagogy of both 1st and 2nd years worked together and prepared sweet Pongal. They shared their joy and happiness by putting rangoli and distributing Pongal amongst each other.

Health Insurance Awareness Talk IV

Apollo Shine It was an eye-opener for the students. The talk was based on health insurance, accident, insurance etc. the students were also told regarding accident insurance coverage in collaboration with Apollo shine for the benefit of the students. It was an interactive, informative and valuable session for the students.

Parents Teachers Meeting

The parents-teachers meeting was held on 25th November 2017. It started with an inaugural ceremony with lighting of lamp and classical dance. The purpose of the meeting was deliberated by the principal. She had an interactive session so that parents were able to clarify their doubts and share their feedbacks. Parents met the respective pedagogy staff of their wards to know their progress in academics and co-curricular activities.

Visit to Mithra Special School

The I Year B.Ed. students celebrated Children’s Day on 14th Nov 2017 in a very innovative way in the special school “MITHRA”.
The student-teachers observed the teaching techniques, skills of teachers, infrastructure, craft centered learning and the examination techniques of the school. It was a very different learning experience and a good exposure to the student-teachers. They also conducted cultural program for those children and as a token of love and affection they distributed savories and also contributed to some of the needs of the school. The children also participated in the cultural program.

Visit to Little Flower Hearing Impaired and Visually Challenged School

I Year B. Ed. students visited Little Flower School on 28th Oct 2017 to observe the learning and teaching methodology used for the hearing impaired and visually challenged children. It was an eye opener for the students who experienced it. It was all together a different world which gave the students motivation to teach special children in the future.

Diwali Celebration

Diwali celebration was held on 17th October 2017. It was organized in a very grandeur manner. The staff and student council members were in charge of this event.
Speech on north and south Indian Diwali, do’s and don’ts of Diwali, video about the festival, skit, song and dance were the highlights of the day. Sweets were distributed to the staff and students.

Health and Hygiene Awareness talk III

The management along with Apollo Shine organized an interactive session with the doctors of Apollo Shine on 13th Oct 2017 on maintaining health and importance of physical exercises and diet.
It was a very interactive and useful session.

Rural Camp

Rural camp was one of the best exposure for the I year B.Ed students. Four groups were sent to different places for the exposure to Vettavalam, Kilpenathur, Tindivanam and ShishuBhavan. LCE is very grateful to Fr.Maria Joe, Fr. Maria Nathan, Fr.Ray and Fr.Kennedy, Scholars and Sisters of Sishubhavan for their meticulous planning and successful organisation of the camps. Educational Tour to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur

Educational Tour to Delhi, Agra and Jaipurwas organized for the second year B.Ed. student-teachers from 22nd September to 1st October, 2017. 11 staff members accompanied 93 student-teachers. Everything was meticulously planned regarding visit to the important places in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Student-teachers enjoyed the ten days tour immensely.

God Experience for I years

Workshop on Yoga – Rev. Sr. Christy, Stella Matituna

A workshop on Yoga was conducted by Rev.Sr. Christy, Professor ,StellaMatituna College of Education. She explained about the benefits of yoga in one’s daily life. She also explained about the eternal health and the mudras. She explained how yoga helps the teachers to maintain peace and decorum of oneself.

Health and Hygiene Awareness talk II

The second awareness programme on Health and Hygiene was conducted by Apollo Shine Doctors. A awareness was created among the students about the prevailing diseases such as Dengue, Typhoid and Cholera and various measures to be taken care of for the diseases.

Seminar on Philosophy of Education – Fr. Williams(11.30am – 1.00pm)

A Seminar on Philosophy of Education was addressed by Fr.Williams on 6th Sep, 2017. He explained the students about the involvement of teachers and students in the education system. He aslo spoke on the philosophy of education of ancient India and Modern India. He focused on the role of teachers in the present scenario of the education system of India.

Teachers Day Celebration

Teachers day celebration was conducted by the students of LCE on 05-09-2017 in the Aruppe Auditorium. Culturals were performed for the teachers by the students. Motivational videos and speech were also performed for the inspiration of student teachers. Games were conducted for the teachers.Rev.Dr. Samuel Jeyaseelan, SJ was the chief guest for the celebration.

Health & Hygiene Awareness Talk I (11am – 12.30pm) – Apollo Shine

The first awareness programme on Health and Hygiene was conducted by Apollo Shine Doctors on 01-09-2017. They insisted on the personal hygiene of every individual. They also explained about the maintenance of cleanliness around us and also about various common diseases and the proper measures to be taken for it.

Socio-Cultural Analysis – Rev. Dr. Emmanuel, SJ, Director, AICUF

An awareness programme on Socio-Cultural analysis was conducted for the I year B.Ed students by Rev.Fr.Emmanuel and Rev.Fr.Eugine Rosario. They brainstormed on Global issues in today’s world – globalization, environmental problems, jallikattu and caste system in the society.
They projected the caste discrimination and insisted social changes. They explicated the discrimination of Dalits even today by showing caste studies. At the end student teachers got the awareness on globalization and they learnt how to bring about social change in the society.

Theatre Pedagogy by Nigazh Theatre Group

A workshop on Theatre Pedagogy was organized for the I year B.Ed students from 21st to 29th August. Mr.Shanmuga Raja, film Actor and Director of Nigazh Theatre Center, Madurai and his team Mr. Chandra Mohan, Ms.Rajeshwari and Mr.Saravanan conducted the workshop. The workshop began with the inauguration ceremony on 4th August at 9.00am in the presence of Rev.Fr.Francis Jayapathy,SJ, Rector, Loyola College.
During the workshop the students were trained in vocal exercise, Skill of Imagination, Emotional depth, Facial expression, Concentration on his/her role, Creativity, Script Performance, Pedagogy technique and Building on narrative action andPoetic action. The valedictory function was held on 29th August which began at 3.30pm. The workshop enlightened the notions of the student teachers on teaching.

Talents Day II – I Year B.Ed. Students – Dance & Drawing Competition

Seminar on Religious Harmony – Fr. V.Sekhar, SJ, Exe. Director, IDCR

A One day seminar on Religious Harmony was conducted for the I years on 18th August 2017, by Fr.VincentSekar SJ, IDCR. He spoke on various religions and beliefs and also on the strength of unity among the people of various religions. At last for the peaceful environment in the class as well as in the institution, he motivated the student teachers to treat everyone equally irrespective of religion and not to be judgmentaltowards students.

Independence Day Celebration

Independence Day was celebrated in the college on 15th August 2017. Dr.Benard D’ Swamy, Coodinator LISSTAR was the Chief Guest. In his address he highlighted the Fundamental Duties and the Principal to be followed by the citizens being teacher for the betterment of the students

Congratulations to Dr. Beulah Jayarani, Asst. Professor of Pedagogy of Biological Science who participated in a three day Workshop on Curriculum Revision by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Chennai from 20th to 22nd July at KALAIVANAR ARANGAM, Chennai.

Congratulations to Ms. Sridevi, Asst. Professor of Pedagogy of Mathematics who was invited to deliver a valedictory address in the International Conference on English Language, Literature and Education on 27th July jointly organised by St. Charles College of Education, Madurai and Roots International Journal of Multidisciplinary Researches.

Concept Enrichment Programme

Concept Enrichment Programme as Bridge Course was conducted for the first year student-teachers. This was to make the student-teachers familiarise with the basic concepts of concerned pedagogy subject. The staff played a vital role in making this programme very successful. It refreshed the minds of the student-teachers.

Seminar on ICT Resources for Effective Teaching

On 29th July a one day seminar on ICT Resources for Effective Teaching was conducted to equip the second year student-teachers with skill of using ICT resources in teaching-learning process. Mr. Praveen and Mr. Franklin of LIBA were the resource persons.

Media Education

A two day media awareness programme was organised for the first year student-teachers on 28th and 29th July. Mr. Suresh Paul and Mr. Chinnappan of VISCOM Dept of Loyola College, Chennai were the resource persons. The participants became aware of the impact of media today.

Panel Discussion on Making Practice Teaching Effective

A panel discussion on “Making Practice Teaching Effective” was organised on 28th July. Dr. Rajakumari Amirthagowri, Former Principal of LCE chaired the session. Mr. Arnold Robinson of Meston College of Education, Dr. Sahaya Mary of IASE, Dr. Mano Stella Charling of St. Christopher’s College of Education and Rev.Sr. Christina Mary of Stella Matituna College of Education served as panellists. The event turned out to be very useful and fruitful for the second year student-teachers. There was a meaningful interactive session with guide teachers from practice teaching schools. Both events were well planned and organised by the staff. Kudos to the organisers of the events!

Homage to St. Ignatius of Loyola

In view of Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Founder of Society of Jesus on 31st July, the Management, staff and students paid homage to the patron of LCE on 26th July. Rev.Dr. Justin Emmanuel, SJ highlighted the importance of change of attitudes in one’s life and the contribution one makes to the growth of the other. A meaningful prayer service was conducted by the student-teachers.

Fresher’s Day

Fresher’s Day was organised on 24th July. Dr. Fatima Vasanth, Deputy Principal, Loyola College, Chennai presided over the function. In her address she highlighted the great qualities the teacher should instil in the students. The first year student-teachers gave a scintillating performance.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Training

Basic Life Support (BLS) Training programme was arranged in collaboration with Apollo Shine Foundation on 21st July. All the second year student-teachers took part in this training. This was organised to equip the teacher trainees with necessary first aid skills which would be great help to the prospective teachers during their internship in various schools.

God – Experience / Addiction & De-addiction

The second year students underwent a one day God –experience by Rev.Fr. John Michael, SJ. It was a soul enriching and enlightening experience. It deepened their faith in God. On the same day the first years were given “Awareness on Addiction & De-addiction” by Mr. Albert of JAMMAD. This session enabled the students to understand the alcoholics with empathy and relate with them compassion.

Lesson Plan Writing

The second year student-teachers were given a ten day rigorous practice of writing the lesson plan under the able guidance of concerned pedagogy staff. The student-teachers’ whole-hearted participation was very encouraging and promising. At the end the student-teachers felt empowered and confident.

Understanding the Self

Rev. Dr. Emmanuel, SJ and Rev.Fr. Richard, SJ conducted a three day sessions from 4th to 6th July on Understanding the Self for the II year B.Ed. Student-Teachers with a view to equipping them with needed skills to understand and guide the students during their 16 week practice teaching programme. The student –teachers were enabled to understand themselves and relate with others with right understanding without any prejudices.

Orientation to I year B.Ed. Student-Teachers

Orientation to I year B.Ed. Student-Teachers was organised from 4th to 6th July with a view to making the first years familiar with one another and with the college campus. The resource persons were Mrs. Caroline Maria and Mrs. Vijayalakshmi, Assistant Professors of Perspectives in Education.

Inauguration of Academic Year 2017-18

Inauguration of Academic Year 2017 -18 began with a prayer service followed by the inaugural address by Rev. Fr. Jayapathy, SJ, Rector, Loyola College, Chennai on 3rd July at 9.00am. Both the second year and the first year students along with the staff were present. The parents / guardians of the first year students also participated in the inauguration of 2017-18 academic year.
